Colossians 1:12-14
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Introduction:
The false teachers in Colosse, just like false teachers of our days would not deny the importance of Christ. They would simply dethrone him, giving him prominence but not pre-eminence (the fact of surpassing all others; superiority.
In their philosophy Jesus Christ was but one of many of the emanations that preceded from God and through which men could reach God
It was this claim that Paul is refuting in this section

Message
#1 He made us
He made us partakers of the inheritance of saints
In the Old Testament God's people had inheritance of Cannan. It was an earthly Canaan
Cannan he's not a picture of heaven for there will be no battles or defeats in heaven
Cannan is a picture of the present inheritance in Christ
We must claim our inheritance by faith in Jesus' name
Day by day we must claim our blessings from the Lord
Scripture says He made us. In other it saying He qualified us where we did not qualify.
We are partakers of his inheritance and he qualified us to be partakers. We have got an inheritance.
This scripture refers to every promise and provision of the gospel for believers (Duet 28:1-14, Gen 12:1-3)
#2 He delivered us
it means he rescued us from danger
just as God rescued the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt under the old covenant. He also rescued us from our Egypt and different forms of oppression. Ex 6:6, Ex 14:30
#3 He translated us
It means he moved us from where we were to where we are supposed. He moved us from one location to another.
To Translate is to move from point A to point B. Your life shall never be stagnant in Jesus' name. (Jeremiah 29:11)
The Greek word for translate is methistano. It means to be delivered from Satan and his power and the Kingdom of sin, sickness and depravity and to be placed under the government of the Son of God's love.
The transfer is made possible by the power of the blood of Jesus
It is made possible by redemption through the blood of Christ
#4 He redeemed us
The meaning of redemption is deliverance or released from captivity
Believers have been rescued from condemnation and you have also received forgiveness of their sins
He bought us out of trouble
He purchased us out of trouble. We are purchased out of trouble.
By believing in and accepting this redeeming work of Jesus Christ for us, we are reconciled to God. (See Romans 5:1-2) We are no longer enslaved and estranged.
1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
1 Peter 1:18-21 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
#5 He forgave us
The word translated forgiveness means to send away or to cancel a debt
Christ did not only free us and transfer us to a new Kingdom, but he cancelled every debt so that we cannot be enslaved
Satan cannot find anything in the files that will indict us
God's forgiveness of sinners is the act of His Grace towards us.
We did not deserve forgiveness neither did we deserve to earn it
Knowing that we are forgiven gives us hope
It gives us and makes it possible for us to fellowship with God and enjoy his grace and seek to do his will
Now because we have been forgiven, we can also forgive others (Col 3:13, Eph 4:32)
The blood reminds us of the cost of salvation. It was a costly price
Nothing should touch you or threaten you because you are redeemed with a special price
