Scripture
1 Corinthians 2:9-16 9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Introduction
At one time every Christian was natural i.e. having the things of nature in there life.
Unsaved people walk by sight and really see nothing
They are spiritually blind
The Corinthians were spiritually ignorant
Ladies and gentlemen to have the mind of Christ that is not mean we are infalliable and playing God in the lives of other people. We still need to keep growing.
It is not enough to say I believe in God. What God?
You need to have a relationship with Him and carry His nature in your life.
We were saved when the Father chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4) but the moment we receive Him our lives should improve.
I was saved by His death on the Cross.
BODY
There are three different spirits
the Bible says in James 2:19 you believe that God is one, you do well. Even demons believe and shudder!
If there are three spirits, this means we have two kinds of Words of Wisdom (1 Cor 2:13)
I also want you to know that there are two kinds of men since men is a tripartite being. He has got body, soul and spirit.
It will be difficult to be supernaturally elevated without this knowledge
What are the two kinds of men? (1 Cor 2:14-15)
We have got the natural man (in Greek the psuchikos ψυχικός) and the spiritual man (in Greek the pnuematikos πνευματικός).
#1 THE NATURAL MAN (the psuchikos ψυχικός): (1 Cor 2:14)
Psuchikos means natural, of the soul or mind
The natural man (the psuchikos) is sensual. He uses the 5 senses. The sense of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing.
This is the man living under the control of fleshly passions. The sensual and deprive the part of the man in contrast with the rational part (Gal 5:19-21, Rom 1:29-32, 1 Cor 6:9-11, Col 3:5-10)
He is the animal man opposed to the spiritual man.
He has no sense of spiritual values and no relish of them
He counts it the highest wisdom to live for this world and carnal pleasures
Spiritual things are foolishness to him
He cannot see their supreme excellence due to the animal appetites and being spiritually dead (Eph 2:1-9).
#2 THE SPIRITUAL MAN (in Greek the pnuematikos πνευματικός). (1 Cor 2:15)
Pnuematikos means spiritual; relating to the realm of spirit, i.e. the invisible sphere in which the Holy Spirit imparts faith, reveals Christ ((1 Cor 3:1, 9:11, 14:37, 115:44-46, Gal 6:1)
This man is living under the control of the Holy Spirit and minds the things of the spirit (Rom 8:1-13, Gal 15:16-26.
He is the mind of Christ and esteems spiritual things above sensual (1 Cor 2:15-16)
He is a new creature and the resurrected from death in trespasses and sin (2 Cor 5:17-18, Eph 2:1-9, 4:22-24).
The lower animal passions in life have been crucified (Rom 8:12-13, Gal 2:20, 5:24) and put off (Eph 2:22-24), Col 3:5-10)
The spiritual man examines, convinces and disproves the natural man of his evil ways
No one finds fault with the godly man (1 Cor 2:15)
He is supernaturally elevated
For us to be supernaturally elevated we need the Holy Spirit.
Before I close I want you to know the 4 advantages of the Holy Spirit of God in us
#1 HE DWELLS INSIDE US AS BELIEVERS (1 Cor 2:12)
the moment you trusted Jesus Christ the spirit of God entered your body and He made it a temple (1 Cor 6:19-20)
He baptized us into the board of Christ (1 Cor 12:13)
He sealed us (Eph 1:13-14)
He also remains with us(Jn 14:16).
He is the gift of God
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of liberty (2 Cor 3:17)
The Holy Spirit is not the spirit of the world
We did not receive the spirit of fear (Rom 8:15)
The Holy Spirit makes the eternal FATHER real in us
#2 THE SPIRIT SEARCHES (1 Cor 2:10-11)
The things of God need God's personality
With the Holy Spirit we share God’s very life
The Holy Spirit knows the greater and deeper things of God. He reveals them to us (1 Cor 2:10)
God wants us to know all the blessings of his grace, that he is planted in us
#3 THE SPIRIT TEACHES (1 Cor 2:13)
Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit will teach us
He Teaches us God's vocabulary
When we understand the word of God's with the inspiration and influence of the Holy Spirit, God's vocabulary will dwell in our lives
Let us allow the spiritual to teach us when we study the Bible
Christianity without dogma is dead. Deeper things are Dogmatics.
The Holy Spirit brings and gives revelation
Make time to read the Bible and meditate upon it
The study and application of basic Bible doctrine can transform your life forever
In Conclusion 4th advantage of having the Holy Spirit is that
#4 THE SPIRIT MATURES THE BELIEVER 1 Cor 2:14-16
He makes us spiritual
He changes the psuchikos to pnuematikos and ensures the pnuematikos have got power over the psuchikos.
He changes us from child level to grown up level
As Christians day by day we should receive things of the spirit for us to continue to grow and mature
We receive maturity through the Spirit by reading the word of God, prayer, fasting, participating on the things of God and etc etc
When we exercise and practice all the dogmas of Christianity our maturity and tenacity in the spirit is unshakable
One of the marks of maturity is discernment; the ability to penetrate beneath the surface of life and see things as they really are
A mature Christian grows in spiritual discernment and develops the ability to understand more and more of the will and mind of God
May the Lord help us to understand His spiritual language and will as we worship. Cry supernatural elevation and growth in your life as a Christian.
Deny fleshly things.
We want to understand more and more the mind of God and His will.
We yearn to know and value what God values in our mind.
May the Lord help us to become balanced Christians who are blessed and fully understand the whole counsel of God.
May God supernaturally elevate us to see, hear and perceive spiritual things in Jesus name
To the spiritual everything is spiritual.
