Title: The Compassion of Jesus Christ
Deuteronomy 11v11; Mark 9v14-29;
Introduction
Ø This is a story which shows that Christian life is a land of hills and valleys but in those valleys and hills, we are guaranteed of victory through our faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Ø In this story the Lord had just returned with His 3 friends (Peter, James and John) to the other remaining 9 disciples and He found them in double trouble
1. They had failed to cast out a demon
2. The scribes were debating with them and perhaps ridiculing and taunting them because of their failure
Ø Have you ever been taunted by someone because of your failure. I guess that was the same feeling that they had before the crowd and in their hearts. It was a feeling of rejection and no hope. But when the Lord approaches the scene, he first confronts those who were taunting, mocking and questioning them.
Ø May the Lord intervene in your life if there is anyone and anything that has been looking down upon you and taunting you.
Ø The boy was both deaf and dumb. It was double tragedy.
Ø The demon was doing it’s best to destroy him . Whenever the demon attacked him. It would live him devastated. The demon would come and go. This young man did not have a free life. He could not enjoy his life. Praise be to our God who came to give life and life in abundance.
Ø Can you imagine how hard it was for the father trying to take care of the boy and protecting him. He was really in a dilemma. When the Father approached Jesus, he says Have compassion on us. There are times we need the compassion of the Lord. In fact we need it everyday everywhere. Compassion means mercy, Sympathy, Empathy, Care, Kind-heartedness. We need it everyday.
Ø In John 10v10 Jesus says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.’
Ø Jesus came to give life in abundance. If you are looking for abundant life, I can tell you the answer. Try Jesus. Try him and lets see if he is failure. Your victory is guaranteed in him.
Ø Jesus had given his disciples power to cast out demons Mark 6v7,13 yet their ministry to the boy was not effective
Ø Jesus was disappointed, not pleased and grieved with them because they had the spiritual resources, that he had graciously given them to be successful.
Ø I want you to know that all resources are in Jesus Christ and they are accessible. Lets search for them the same way we search for precious minerals.
Ø One of the promises he has give us is in Mark 16v14-18, 14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Ø The Father of the child was so desperate, and he was now even doubting whether Jesus would deliver the boy from this oppression. The Father was honest enough to admit his own unbelief and asked the Lord to be compassionate on him and his son and to help him to overcome his unbelief.
Ø The Lord helps and is compassionate with honest people. Be honest to him and you will see the goodness of his hand.
The Main Lesson in this passage is:
1. The power in our faith can overcome our enemy
Why had the Disciples failed
1. It is because of their careless personal walk in their spiritual life.
2. It is because they had neglected prayer and fasting in their walk with Christ.
3. They had stopped cultivating their own faith. The power that Jesus had given them was effective only if they exercise faith. Faith is a prerequisite that must be cultivated with spiritual discipline and devotion life in prayer
4. It may have been the absence of the Lord that had made them powerless, because since the Lord had left them and had gone the 3 close to him. It’s true ladies and gentlemen our closeness to the Lord gives us guaranteed victory and favor.
Ø Not only did they sense failure and embarrassed; but this also robbed the Lord of His glory and gave the enemy an opportunity to criticize. May every criticism in your life be squashed in the name Jesus. Glory be to our Compassionate Savior that intervenes always. He intervened to their trouble and rescued them immediately and effectively. May He intervene in your life in all your circumstances and need situations
Ø I want you to know that anything that robbed the Lord of His glory, He is ready to intervene any time.
Ø Exodus 15:3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.
Ø Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you He will not fail you or forsake you."
Ø Roman 4:20 says, He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
Ø If you are strengthened in your faith you will give the Lord his glory
Ø There are so mountains to be possessed and the Lord will compassionately give you victory because of your consistent persistence.
Ø I am pleased with Caleb when he is now 85 years. He goes to Joshua when inheritance was being distributed and he claims his inheritance even at an old age.
Ø You can claim your inheritance even now. Don’t procrastinate. Let every weariness be broken now. Remember my dear all things are possible if you believe.
Ø Someone said quitters are never winner. I will say to you Winners never quit; they are persistent. Winners don’t fear they are confident. They trust the Lord easily without any trace doubt. They trust the Lords sincerity and love for them. Start claiming your mountains because of your trust to Lord. There are many mountains to be possessed in Canada. These mountains need dreamers and risk takers. It is time to break limits in Jesus name
Conclusion

Ø Joshua 14v7-14 “7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. 8 Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made them heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9 So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ 10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.” 13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
