Subtitle: What is your Name
Genesis 30v1-13 & 32v22-32
INTRODUCTION
Ø This is a supernatural visitation with public manifestation
Ø I must say many and most of all the times before, the Lord used to speak to Jacob through visions and dreams, but this was a public manifestation. It was a real, he was in contact with the man that he saw
Ø Before I jump into this supernatural visitation, which was so public to Jacob’s life, his family, people around him, his enemies and the world. I want to first talk about man made manifestations and miracles that resulted into problems
Ø We have all had man made manifestations.
Ø These are manifestations that had human effort or input. Manifestations initiated by man. Time is coming for real supernatural divine orchestrated manifestation. Those manifestations which cannot be erase.
Man Made Manifestation (Genesis 30v1-13)
Ø Rachel was barren, she failed to give Jacob a child when she expected. When things could not happen, she went to Jacob and said give me a child or I will die. Jacob said am I God that you should say that to me
Ø There are times we have gone to people looking for miracles from them and they could not give us because they do not have them. All miracles are permitted by God. They are divine orchestrated.
Ø The bible says immediately after talking to Jacob and receiving an answer from him, she went and spoke to her maid Bilhah to have children for her. Instead of praying like Hannah, she went to Bilhah her maid and connived with her to have children for her with Jacob. Hannah is a great lesson for us, that prayer can bring divine orchestrated miracles. Miracles that cannot be erased. Miracles that can dominate the world.
Ø Hannah stopped wrestling with her husband Elkanah and also Peninah the other wife. She wrestled with God and as a result of her prayer, God gave her Samuel.
Ø Samuel became a blessing of God and what Samson could not overcome, Samuel overcomed it. Samuel lived a Holy life. He became a Priest, a Prophet and King of Israel. He also defeated Philistines during his time and through David the one he had anointed.
Ø When Samuel was born, he was brought into the house of God but Samson remained home. What a huge contrast between these two.
Ø Many of us, we have Bilhah's in our lives that have been doing it for us because the bible says Bilhah gave birth to a child and Rachel named him Dan. Dan means the Lord have had my request and vindicated me
Ø In the book of Judges, it says Dan is the Father Manoah. Manoah is the father of Samson
Ø Dan came from a man-made miracle, but this did not stop Manoah to have Samson, the divine orchestrated miracle of Israel. Manoah and his wife lived a holy life even in the time that Israel was sinning and following other Gods. God spoke to them because they were living a consecrated life.
Ø After Dan’s birth, Bilhah gave birth to Naphtali. Rachel name him Naphtali because she said I have struggle with my sister but now I am winning. There are times we struggle with man and we feel we are winning with natural strength but only to meet our disappointment soon. There are times that we have celebrated really for a short time.
Ø The problem with man-made miracles is that they don’t last long. They don’t endure the test of time. Most of them have got an expiry date.
Ø When they happen, it is the talk of the town, but they are not long lasting
Ø The bible says all this time Leah had stopped giving birth to children and Jacob was losing interest on her. So, she also duplicated the miracle and spoke to her maid Zilpah and Zilpah gave birth to two sons. Manmade miracles can be duplicated.
Ø Zilpah’s first one was named Gad because Leah said “Oh how fortunate I am”. Ladies and Gentlemen, we don’t live on fortune. Fortune will expire. After Gad, Zilpah had Asher which means joy is mine. It’s true, Man-made miracles have got competition. They normally cannot survive competition. The world has got competition, we will not survive if we don’t have supernatural added advantage on our side. May the Lord give you supernatural acceleration everywhere all the time. This will make a difference
Ø This world has got competition, if you want to survive pray.
Ø The bible says chance happens to us all, but prayer will distinguish us.
Ø Leah latter on gave birth to three children on her own for Jacob; Issachar, Zebulun and Dinah the only daughter in Jacobs house
Ø When Rachel found grace before the Lord, she later gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin
Ø It doesn’t matter how bad you started there is Grace that is waiting for you
Ø Pray about it and the grace of God will locate you
How do I move from where I am
Ø When Jacob was leaving Laban's house, he sneaked by the night, but Rachel stole her father’s gods. This was a huge error which caused Laban to pursue them. Whenever you leave Laban's house don’t take his gods because you will open door of access by doing so. That door of access will give him power to follow you. The devil always follows his traces and things that we voluntarily keep to ourselves.
Ø Yes, sometimes you don’t have to say goodbye but sometimes you have to say goodbye. There are some sins you can leave secretly but obviously there are some sins you must leave publicly.
Ø When Laban pursued them, Jacob said let the person who have taken your gods die. Light and darkness do not fellowship together. The are things we stop doing when we give our to Christ. He also help’s us through his power. The power of the Holy Spirit, the chief intercessor of our lives.
Ø Jacob did not know Rachel had stolen some gods from his father. We might not know the things that you have or do but God knows. It’s time you start to be open with God. It is time that God should help us to stop those things we have been doing. Those things contrary to him.
Ø Romans 7v15-25 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Ø The bible says whosever the son of God sets free is indeed set free. Our freedom is in Christ. You are assured of your freedom!!
Continue on the Way
Ø After Laban’s pursuit of Jacob, and their covenant; Jacob continued his way to his father house and God’s angel came to meet him
Ø May the Lord assign his angels to come and meet you whilst you are on your way
Supernatural Reconciliation
Ø It’s time for supernatural reconciliation. Jacob sent some messengers to meet and reconcile with his brother Esau. These messengers gave Esau Jacobs CV, but Esau did not appreciate that CV. He saw the same trickster in the CV, he wanted a changed person.
Ø I believe Esau said in his heart the same way Jacob left is the same he is still living. That’s the same way he is coming back to me, I am going to deal with him.
Ø Esau expected Jacob to have repented but Jacob despite all the visitations the he had experienced; he still lived the same way. He wanted to bribe Esau for a friendly reconciliation. Don’t use bribe for reconciliation.
Ø Jacob tried to appease Esau with gifts/bribe but Esau was not interested. It very important to try to be genuine in everything that you do.
Repentance
Ø God want us to repent and have true repentance
Ø God is interested in our souls. The bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but will get eternal life.”
Ø If he gave his only begotten son, we should fully give ourselves to him as well. The bible says whosoever loves his life will lose it but whosoever loses his life he will gain it back again.
A changed Man
Ø When Jacob met the Lord, he was changed
Ø His name and life were changed
Ø He left the place limping with a new name.
Ø Yes, you might be limping but let me say to you, it is well. When we seem weak that is when we are strong.
Ø You might be limping now just like Jacob but in that limping you will obtain mercy
Ø Esau had come for war when he saw that Jacob was not changed in his trickery. He had lost his birth right through Jacobs tricks before, so he was not going to take it lightly.
Ø When Esau saw the limping Jacob, he changes his attitude. His anger varnished
Ø Ladies and Gentlemen there is power in humility
Ø There is also power in true repentance. Yes, it might give us disadvantages in the eyes of the world but in the eyes of God it gives favor.
Ø Mark 8:36-37 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Ø God is holy. Let us allow God to remove the trickery bag of Jacob from our live. The bible says therefore be holy for I am Holy.
Ø If you repent you will get a new get a new name. Your new name is a true disciple of Jesus Christ. A Christian. You become anointed.
Ø The most important question is, WHAT IS YOUR NAME.
Ø You need to know your name to know where you are and where you are going.
Ø What happened that night to Jacob changed his life.
Ø Yes, you might be in your night but in that night, God is seeing a dawn. There is an early bright morning star that will soon arise.
Ø It was night for Jacob that day, but it became his morning
Ø In all your nights may the Lord give you your morning. May the Lord give you unexpected breakthroughs?
Ø The bible says up to now the children of Israel do not eat the tendon near the hip socket because of what happened that night
Ø Your night is becoming a morning
Ø What a supernatural visitation with public manifestation
Ø When you become a true Nazarene, you will not eat everything. You will not do everything.
Ø 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
Do you know your Name
Ø In Genesis 27v19 When Jacob was asked his name, he said my name is Esau to his father. I chapter 32 he said his name was Jacob. It’s true he didn’t know his name but now he knew his name. He was no longer lying. He was no longer living a lie.
Ø Oh, there are several things we have lied but now we come back to sense and repent with regret.
Ø The question is, “WHAT IS YOUR NAME”.
Ø The man that fought with Jacob wanted to know Jacobs name to bless him. When he said his name he was blessed.
Ø I don’t know what you are wrestling with today. May be you are wrestling with wrong things and destinies. You might be wrestling with things that do not help. Things that will not change your life effectively and supernaturally.
Bring God into the equation.
Ø Bring God into the equation. In that wrestling, I want you to start to wrestling with God. When Jacob fought/wrestled with God for a blessing. God changed his destiny. He said to Jacob from today, you name is Israel because you have wrestled with man and God and have overcome. God has been seeing your wrestling with man and he saying you are an overcomer. No weapon forged against shall prosper.
Ø Romans 8v31-39; 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ø It very important to know your name.
Ø That name that you know yourself in secret places, that name which you don’t want people to know. May the Lord change that name?
Ø God bless you that you now know your name.
Ø In that name and humbleness there is a miracle waiting for you.
Ø A miracle of Favor.
Ø Favor from people and God
Ø Remember the revival start from inside
Ø The change starts from inside
