Title: With Mercy
Text: Lamentations 3:22-23; Matthew 20:29-34
Ø “Mercy” is a cornerstone characteristic of God.
Ø It’s mentioned 262 times in the King James Version,
Ø The common denominator between mercy and grace is Love.
Ø The difference between Mercy and Grace is that “Mercy is what gets us out of trouble,” and “Grace gives us what we don’t deserve.”
Ø Mercy is a treatment out of compassion. A compassionate treatment of those in distress or trouble. It is a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion. Mercy is incidental. Grace is extended. It is over a long period of time. It is always there.
Ø It is an act of kindness, compassion, or favor: It is something that gives evidence of divine favor or grace; blessing: It stops something that is unpleasant. When you are merciful for someone, you feel sorry for them. You become compassionate. You moved to do something
Ø Grace unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification. It is a virtue coming from God. a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance
Ø Mercy allows us to experience love, forgiveness, compassion, peace and joy, whether we deserve it or not.
Ø “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
Ø Mercy is asked for from someone who have got it. From who someone who have got the power, capability and ability to help you
Ø It is asked by someone knowing that their only source of hope is that person or the Lord
Ø It is asked by someone who has no other means to obtain help, except the only one he/she is pleading with.
Ø We have got an example of the Canaanite Woman who came to Jesus pleading for mercy and Jesus gave her after a great persistence (Matthew 15:21-28). Don’t give up quickly when pleading for mercy
Ø If you are pleading for mercy you are unshakable. You are confident and bold because you really your source of help.
Ø If you ask for mercy, it’s a great sign of faith. Jesus said to Canaanite Woman that He had nevere seen such great faith.
Ø Why do we need mercy? We need mercy to change our situations, our state and our tomorrow. That act of kindness from the Lord which will change our lives forever
Ø Mercy prevents us from destructions and calamities
Ø Mercy brings favor to us, Mercy protects us; Mercy promotes. When David had sinned, he demanded mercy from the Lord
Ø The Lord was merciful to us and He gave us grace
Ø When you receive mercy you can not boast (Ephesians 2:4-9). You remain humble. Mercy asked by humble people. Pompous people don’t ask for mercy because they satisfied with what they have
Ø Ephesians 2:4-5 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Ø Mercy can bring life again. If were feeling a distance the Lord, may the Lord be merciful to you today and give spiritual life once again.
Ø If you have ever felt like there would be no tomorrow in your situation and you are in the midst of a night or troubles? Psalm 30:5 says, For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Ø I believe this is what Jeremiah was feeling after the whole nation had destroyed and people had been captured and forcibly taken to land that did want and were subject to forced labour.
Ø Ladies and gentlemen, there are times we walk in a dark nights when you can't tell where we going. It should stop in the name of Jesus, by His mercy we are free and blessed.
Ø When you are in such a situation; you will be constantly asking God questions because you to know What is happening. Lord I am confused tell me!!! How did I get here!!!! When are you going to answer!!!
Ø You will be constantly looking for a new morning.
Ø I would want to assure you today, that there is a New morning. A New Morning is coming. In fact whenever you go through a night no matter how long it might take; your morning is coming anyway.
Ø Psalm 103:13 “Like as a father pities his children, so the Lord pities them that fear Him”.
Ø Every morning when the sun comes up, God wants us to have fresh proofs of His unchanging love and compassion.
Ø We should wake up to a new beginning, were yesterday’s troubles and the dark night are over And We see the beautiful sunrise.
Ø God promised that whatever needs we have for the day, God will meet those needs, like He feeds the birds and clothes the flowers! (Matthew 6:26) – Matthew 6:25-34
Ø We have got new trials and difficulties each day but He also gives us new and fresh mercies and compassions each day to overcome any hurdle because He loves us so dearly
Ø Without these mercies and compassion we will be consumed.
Ø In Paul says Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” because I always have got new mercies.
Ø I need my new mercies from Lord each day. All the mercies that I received last year are not enough for today therefore it won't stop me from asking for new mercies in Jesus name. Jeremiah says, they are new every morning
Ø All the miracles and breakthroughs I received last year won't stop me from receiving new miracles and breakthroughs this year in Jesus name. I refuse to be silence because of last year’s miracle. Yes, they were good but I can’t dwell on that I need new mercies for today. Yesterdays mercies expire.
Ø All the things I experienced. Things and services that I did for God a year ago won’t excuse me from serving and experiencing Him more today. He gives the ability to accomplish each tasks each day. Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Ø God’s character is unmovable. He is a merciful Father. God’s character is permanent and reliable.
Ø When the storms of life are blowing against us, we need to know God is with us and His power is unchangeable and as solid as a rock.
Ø He is the anchor that we can hold on to, no matter how fierce the waves might look.
Ø He is faithful to finish the good work that He has started in us! (Philippians 1:6)
Ø He is faithful to sympathize when we have burdens and problems
Ø Hebrews 4:14-16 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Ø There are many things that I don’t qualify this year that I want to qualify, and hence I need His mercies toady. 1 Thessalonians 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
Ø Joshua 23:14 “Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.
Ø Romans 8:31-39 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ø As I conclude I want us all to pray for God for give us the new mercies and compassion in all that we are believing him for. Psalms 51:1 David says, Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love.” Mercy qualifies the unqualified and qualified. Matthew 20:29-34
Ø Oh ‘God, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Jesus, have mercy, Holy Spirit have mercy.’
